What’s Google Business?

Google Business is a free online tool maintained by Google that allows businesses to get in front of customers by allowing them to display contact information and useful info on Google search and Google maps. By simply adding a listing, it can improve brand awareness and local exposure, making a business stand out from the crowd.

How do I get it?

To create a business listing, head to and search for your business name. If your business hasn’t previously been listed you can create a new listing. If your business has previously been listed by someone else, ie you’ve taken over a business then you can claim that listing. To verify ownership of the business, Google will send you a postcard through the post that contains a verification code that you must use to validate the listing.

What info should I include?

As much useful info as possible! The basics should include your address, contact number, web and email address, but you should try to be as detailed as possible as this will not only provide your customers will useful information but it will also help with your search rankings. For example, you can include opening hours, service categories, whether you have car parking and what methods of payment you take.

Adding photos to your listing is also important and it’ll give potential customer a much clearer picture of what you can offer. You can even go a step further with Google’s new 360 tour where customers can take a virtual tour around your premises.

Ask for reviews

One large factor that will ensure you rank above your competition is reviews. Ask customers to leave reviews on your business listing, as this will enhance your profile as well as increase the likelihood of new customers choosing you rather than the competition.
