Client: Mowgli’s Indian Restaurant & Lounge
Project: Branding & Design for Print
Launch Project: N/A
A new Indian Restaurant was to be opened in the heart of Cardiff, called Mowgli’s. The restaurant was to provide high quality Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine in a relaxed, informal but contemporary environment.
As this was a start up venture, the business came with a blank canvas in terms of visual brand identity and overall style. Therefore, a brand identity was required that replicated the traditions of Indian / Bangladeshi cooking but still appeared contemporary and classy to the discerning curry lover. Once an identity was finalised, this also had to replicated throughout all marketing materials such as outdoor signage, restaurant menus and promotional leaflets.
To conform to the brief, an identity was created that was sympathetic to the traditional symbols and style often found within areas of India and Bangladesh. This traditional symbolism was combined with a more fluid and modern font in order to bring the identity into the 21st century and to keep it contemporary and high class.
In terms of colour, hues of orange, red and brown were used throughout the design of the logo and marketing material, which represents colours of spices commonly used in Indian cooking.
Mowgli’s new identity and marketing collateral resulted in a contemporary, high quality Indian Restaurant that would entice customers to endulge in new and exciting dishes not often food in your more conventional Indian Restaurant.
As a result of their hard work, in 2012 Mowgli’s were awarded the accolade of ‘South Wales Echo Food & Drink Awards – Indian Restaurant of the Year’
